Climbing Georgia team is a group of local professional guides that have been around for over 10 years. It organizes mountaineering, climbing, trekking ski touring, Cat skiing, Heli skiing, Ski mountaineering and other adventure tours in Georgia, entire Caucasus region, Armenia, Turkey and Russia. Before unification, however, we have a long friendship and many experiences of hiking in the mountains. Each of us has gone through mountaineering school. Climbed many peaks of the Caucasus as well as the Himalayas, Tianshan, Pamirs and other regions.
How we started
It all started much earlier than 10 years ago when we got to the mountains thanks to our parents. We also went rock climbing, hiking and then the first peaks and sporting achievements together. Despite the difficult economic or political situation in Georgia, which led to the collapse of the Soviet Union, we still managed to find funds and go to the mountains. We were also enthusiastic about mountaineering school expeditions and exercises. Although in most cases, we had to go through technical routes with gifted or worn equipment. We worked in our own profession as well as in high-paying jobs to save money to buy equipment and to organize the expedition. At the beginning of the century, many things changed in Georgia, including the attitude towards mountaineering. There were small means to climb the Pamirs, Tianshan, Himalayas, and other mountainous regions. Georgia has become a popular country thanks to its mountainous regions, beautiful nature and ancient traditions.
Guide qualification
The first visitors also appeared about 20 years ago, and their number was growing every year. Then we decided to give an organized look at our work and take our technical training to the level of a professional guide. Preparatory courses for IFMGA certification have started. Many expeditions, assemblies and pieces of training or exams were conducted with the assistance of foreign experts and the Georgian Association of Mountain Guides (GMGA).
After 30 years of difficult work finally, Georgia has became an IFMGA member, on 24 of November 2021. In 2021 Georgia has 30 IFMGA / GMGA Certificated guides and every year will be more and more. We are working Only with IFMGA / GMGA and IFMGA Aspirant guides.
How we work
Thanks to the past years and experience we know exactly what our guests need so we try to do our best. We work without a mediator which makes it easier for us to have direct contact with the guest and personally plan with him or her if we change the tour according to their wishes. Correspondence will be whether it is a telephone conversation we – the acting guides will answer all your questions. That is why our planned tour thoroughly responds to your request. Our basic principle is to maintain quality and not to turn into a company that is focused on the number of tourists. Therefore, we can say that the number of our guests is increasing year by year. We strive to serve as many guests as we can with our own efforts so that we can have a direct relationship with all the guests and be personally responsible for the quality.
Our projects
We also have our own camps with its own infrastructure at Mount Kazbek’s base camp (the meteorological station is the same as Betlemi Hat) and an intermediate camp at 2900 meters on the Sabertse pass. Climbing Georgia team is also the owner of Cafe “Mkinvartsveri” in Mount Kazbek’s base camp (meteorological station) which has been operating since 2019. We involve the whole team in their work and organization. You have started several new projects which we hope will be ready in the summer of 2021. Mountaineering courses which will be offered in 3 stages. Also the development of several new technical routes. We will offer it to our guests. It is because of the professional approach that we want to make such offers as often as possible. We hope we can make your trip to Georgia special and unforgettable.
