Ski tours in Gudauri and Kazbegi

The Kazbegi district is one of the most interesting in Georgia from the ski touring perspective. Gudauri in Kazbegi area is the largest ski resort in the country. Gudauri and Kazbegi are surrounded by high mountains which allow for planning various ski tours.
A 9-day ski tour we offer starts in Gudauri. First, we will stay in the resort where we will make a few day Ski tour trips to the following mountains: Lomisa, Bidara, Dedaena, Narovani, etc.
Then we will move to the small town of Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). Mount Kazbek, famous amongst climbers, is located there. The second part of the tour will take place in this area, in the Chaukhi massif and Gergeti glacier.
This tour is incredibly interesting and beautiful for ski tour lovers.

Best time for ski tours in Kazbegi and Gudauri

The best time to ski in Kazbegi and Gudauri is February, Marchand April. The beginning and end of the season each year depend on the amount of rainfall in the early winter. However, the high altitude of 3000 m, always makes it possible to organize a tour.

Average vertical meters per day

During the tour, we will gain 900-1200 vertical meters daily.

Tour Plan

Day 1 – Arrival and Ski tour at Mount Bidarara

Meet in Tbilisi at 8:00 a.m. and transfer to Gudauri Ski Resort—approximately 2 two-hour drive. We will check in to the hotel and will go for a ski tour at Mount Bidara.

Day 2 – Ski touring Mount Lomisa

After breakfast, we will drive to Village Mleta. The drive will take about 30 min. From the Village, we will continue by Skies to Lomisa monastery where we will meet local monks. After some rest in the monastery, we will ski down from the same side to the village of Mleta.
Total Skitouring time is about 4-5 hours and about 800 vertical meters.

Day 3 – Ski touring Dedaena

After breakfast, we will drive to Cross Pass. The journey time is about 30 minutes by car. From here we continue our Skitouring. It will take about 4 hours to reach the Ridge of Dedaena about 3200 Meters. From the Ridge, we can Ski down to the Jvari Pass side. About 900 vertical meters.

Day 4 – Ski tour to Alpine Hut “Deka” 3020m

After Breakfast, we will drive to ameba church (2200 m). The drive will take about 1 hour.
From the Sameba we will start our ski tour to the Green hut located at 3020m (About 3 hours). In the hut, we will have lunch. After lunch, we can ski tour to Gergeti Glacier (3200 m. -3300 m) and ski back to the Alpine Hut “Deka”.

Day 5 – Ski tour at Ortsveri pass

After breakfast, we will start ski touring to Mount Ortsvery Pass (4100 m). It will take about 4-5 hours of ski touring. From 3200 till 4100 we will ski tour on the Geregeti glacier.

Day 6 – Ski tour at Arsha pass

Ski touring On Arsha Pass ( 3700 m) and ski down to Sameba church. From Sameba we will drive to Tbilisi and it will take about 3.5 hour
