Mt. Shkhara is one of the highest 5201 m.a.s.l and beautiful mountain in the Caucasian mountains. Mount Shkhara is a nine summit mountain, one of the highest and most beautiful peaks located in the central part of the Caucasus between Russia and Georgia. Northside is Russia, and the Southside is Georgia. Mount Shkhara is the highest mountain in Georgia.
Mt Shkhara is one of the difficult technical mountains for climbing in the Caucasus mountains. The Bezingi wall is the highest section of the Central Caucasus with a length of 1,2 km. In Bezingi region are located Shkhara and the second 5000 m.a.s.l high mountain Janga.
The first ascent of the peak Shkhara was made in 1888 by the British climber’s team. Another significant ascent was the 1969 Bezeng wall traverse done by Georgian climbers. The first winter climb of Shkhara did Georgian climbers in 2019.
There are up to 10 climbing routes on Shkhara which are in the highest 5-6 difficulty level. We offer as a tour the 5 B difficulty route. This route is treated as a traditional route at mount Shkhara, and route name is Beqnu. Beqnu was the Georgian climber Beqnu Khergiani, and he did the first ascent at this rout of Shkhara.
This route to Shkhara is combined and requires experience in climbing, rock climbing, ropework and the best physical shape.
